Wonder Man Preview Reveals The MCU's Most Meta Series Ever

Marvel is aware that audiences might be experiencing some superhero fatigue, so they've opted to include that very idea into their next superhero show.

Indeed, the first preview for Wonder Man has been released, and it promises a self-referential angle on the MCU.

The trailer, which premiered on Oct. 10, also subtly pushed the Wonder Man release date later from its initial late 2025 slot into early 2026.

Why one more superhero movie? Everyone is tired of superheroes. Why go see them in the cinema? Wonder Man resonated with me on a profound level. There is an chance to shock audiences. To reinvent the whole category of storytelling.

The reporter responds: "Have you given any thought about casting?"

The preview then transitions to lead actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who's watching the interview on his mobile device, and the preview ends.

Key Details Regarding Wonder Man

We were previously aware that Wonder Man would be a self-referential interpretation on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show features Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, a Hollywood actor who becomes a super-powered being (Wonder Man).

The supporting cast includes Ben Kingsley returning as Iron Man 3's Trevor Slattery, Demetrius Grosse as Eric Williams (aka Grim Reaper), Ed Harris as Simon's manager Neal Saroyan, and Arian Moayed returning as DODC agent P. Cleary.

The Studio's Meta-Humor Approach

We don't know much else about the storyline of Wonder Man, but it's evident that the studio intends to laugh at its own tropes.

In the wake of Deadpool & Wolverine, it seems like the studio is fully committed on self-referential comedy. Will that work without the celebrity appeal of its previous leads? Only time will tell.
