In “It’s a Deal”, a flashback discloses that popular personality Alastor the Radio Demon was a mass murderer in his mortal days. Being aware he was destined for Hell, he established communication with the realm beyond beforehand to obtain a strong position there. Rosie, the charismatic leader Hell’s cannibal community, vowed Alastor he would become “the most powerful Sinner in Hell” in exchange for his soul.

This raises an important query: How is Rosie powerful enough to raise Alastor over every other Demonic Sinners?

“The agreement between Rosie and Alastor is the first stepping stone in a much bigger story that involves a great deal, leading into season 3,” the creator states. “Clearly that is an excellent question: How is she so strong? The answer could be various factors, but the answer is in season three. I am thrilled for people to see it.”

There’s no telling how long viewers will have to wait for Hazbin Hotel’s third season. The studios have green-lit seasons 3 and 4, but the creator frequently notes that animated production is a time-consuming endeavor, and subsequent seasons are undated. Nevertheless, she states holding off on those details is an important part of keeping season 2’s attention in the right places.

“The challenge of any kind of deal with demons, or stories that have enigmas, is giving the audience just enough information to be like, Something's up here, and then unveiling that gradually, and letting that be gratifying,” she comments. “So I am quite eager.”

Mysteries Resolved in Season 3

The showrunner assures that season 3 will address the queries fans have been posing, like why the cannibal leader commanded Alastor to disappear for seven years, which diminished his power in Hell.

“The whole seven years, and the deals these humans are doing, and everything — it's feeding into a larger story,” she reveals.

In the meantime, the Rosie/Alastor backstory episode offers a further look into what the main characters of Sinner Demons looked like as mortals, the second after seeing Sir Pentious’ Victorian-era mortal appearance in episode 2. She says that significant consideration went into the visual creation of these forms.

“The human versions of these personas carry so much weight,” she says. “They vary from looking quite distinct from their demon form to seeming very similar. With the first character, the initial design we see, there was some internal discussion within the team between going with something that represents the personality, versus going with something that's historically correct. We opted for creating a design that just felt like it was him.”

She says the biggest debate over Pentious’ human design was his lengthy locks: “We were like, ‘Nobody typically had long hair like that in that historical period.’ But simultaneously, we think the outline is so important, and we also just thought he appeared attractive. We were like, ‘This just feels right.’ We sort of gave the excuse that he lived in seclusion, so he just let his hair grow out. So there is always a solution. As we create the human versions of these characters […] it is a very enjoyable process to investigate and determine. I am looking forward for fans to view additional of the appearances of the human versions.”

New episodes of Hazbin Hotel the second season are released on midweek on Prime Video.
