I cannot count on three full seasons at Manchester United - Amorim

the United manager

United's manager - here being consoled after May's Europa League final defeat - notes he is satisfied by the co-owner's long-term backing but underscored that what lies ahead is unknown in soccer.

The Red Devils' boss the Portuguese coach feels it's significant the investor publicly shared his extended perspective - but says nothing is certain about the next day in soccer, let alone three years.

In an interview with a major publication last week, Sir Jim stated it might require the head coach a three-year period to produce meaningful results at Old Trafford.

Coming in a period when Amorim's future has been under scrutiny after a prolonged run of disappointing results, the comments helped quell a portion of the current stress.

Yet, discussing prior to the centenary clash with historic adversaries the Reds at their home ground, the manager stressed that the future is hard to predict in soccer.

"It is really good to listen to that but he communicates to me continuously, periodically with words post fixtures - but understand, I realize and the co-owner recognizes, that football is not like that," he commented.

"The most important thing is the next game. Regardless of investors, you cannot manage the next day in football."

CEO Berrada has acknowledged it has needed much more time for the manager to adjust to the top division subsequent to his appointment from Sporting Lisbon in November than anyone imagined.

The Red Devils have secured 10 victories in 34 top-flight fixtures with the Portuguese coach. They still haven't achieved consecutive league victories and have not ended a fixture schedule during this campaign higher than ninth.

The concerning numbers are testing faith in Amorim among the Red Devils supporters approaching a stretch of fixtures their team has struggled during for the last couple of years.

United's boss commented he doesn't sense the instability internally at the club's Carrington training ground and is adamant nothing equals the stress he puts on the squad - and in certain ways, he would rather Sir Jim to refrain from seeking to create tranquility because he fears the influence it may create on the players.

"It's not only a thing that people talk about, I sense it daily," he remarked. "It's certainly beneficial to receive it because it benefits our followers to comprehend the leadership know it is going to take some time.

"But at the same moment, I don't like it because it generates a sense that we own time to solve problems. I don't wish for that feeling in our team.

"The expectation I apply to the players or on myself is significantly greater [compared to external sources]. In football, especially in big clubs, you must demonstrate your value each weekend."
