The captain, absent from play since undergoing a shoulder operation in early May, has come back to provincial training, but it remains unclear whether he will be ready to play against the All Blacks in Chicago on November 1. Second row Joe McCarthy, however, did not make the cut after not recovering from the foot injury he sustained during the first British and Irish Lions match against Australia in July. Northern province player Cormac Izuchukwu and Munster wing Nash are not included due to injury, and number 15 Hugo Keenan was previously excluded after having hip surgery following the Lions tour. Leinster forward McCarthy - Joe's younger brother - is the only new player in the 34-player squad, however Irish rugby authorities says new provincial duo Edwin Edogbo and Brian Gleeson and once-capped Connacht wing Bolton will head to the US as "reserves". Osborne is a further choice in the centres, but the youngster is additionally a leading candidate to cover for Keenan at number 15. Wingers James Lowe, Mack Hansen, Tommy O'Brien and Jacob Stockdale are included. The winger impressed on his first Ireland outings over the summer with a brace each in the wins over the Lelos and Portugal. Paddy McCarthy is the sole new name in the Ireland forwards. The front rower has started a couple of Leinster's URC league matches so far and played in the second string's defeat by England in the English city previously. McCarthy was included in interim boss O'Connell's summer selection, yet did not earn a international appearance. Munster second row Ahern, who received his debut appearances in those matches, is retained, and experienced Ulster lock Henderson returns after missing the summer tour. Conan, who played in all three Lions matches over the summer, is set to deputise for Doris should the captain fails to recover fitness in time to play the All Blacks. The national team will meet in the capital on Monday before traveling to the US on the following day.
